Please review the attachment Pioneer Valley MCD Weekly Surveillance Report Week 34.
There were no additional WNV or EEE positive mosquito pools in Pioneer Valley. Risk levels have remained unchanged for Pioneer Valley. Despite a full trap schedule, collection totals were very low last week (209 mosquitoes and 11 pools submitted). Temperatures dipped into the lower 60s at dusk and continued to fall overnight, contributing to the reduced mosquito activity and collection sizes. Once temperatures reach the lower 60s, mosquitoes begin to slow down and become lethargic. Mosquito collections rebounded this week (EPI WK 35), with a total of 2,270 specimens and 60 pools submitted for testing next week. While the nighttime temps are still dipping, it has remained warm enough throughout the day and at dusk for mosquitoes to remain active.
