The trail system encompasses upland forest, open grassland, floodplain forest, and pristine sections of Bachelor Brook as it meanders to the Connecticut River. The approximately 90-minute, 2-mile trek to the river and back is on field or leaf-and-twig-lined dirt paths, which can be wet and muddy.
Due to parking limitations off Ferry Street, this trek will begin instead off Rt. 47/Hadley Street. Meet at 12:45 pm in the parking lot of the Town Farm Fields/Community Garden area. Be advised that the new River-to-Range Trail area can only be accessed half-way via this trek route, which includes two short, but moderately steep ascents and descents in the woods. Walking poles are optional, but recommended for inclines, along with snowshoes or crampons for snowy/icy conditions.
Wear weather-appropriate clothing and safe/waterproof footwear, and bring water. Post-trek, please stay to enjoy BWC-provided light refreshments and socializing! Non-enjoyable or hazardous inclement weather/conditions will force the trek to be cancelled.
