Residents will see an increase in sewer and trash rates in the next fiscal year which begins July 1, 2019.

To keep up with capital demands and upcoming projects while proactively tackling aging infrastructure, the sewer rate will rise $15 from $265 per EDU to $280 per EDU. Some of the capital projects affecting this rate increase include replacing 1,000 feet of sewer from Mount Holyoke College Boathouse to Park Street, 500 feet of sewer at the rotary, 1,000 feet of the Judd Brook Interceptor, and systematically replacing old clay sewer lines.

The annual trash fee will increase $10 from $65 per dwelling to $75 per dwelling. Green bag costs will remain the same at $2 per large green bag and $1 per small green bag.

Other fees are increasing that may not affect all residents. To bring its fee schedule in line with neighboring communities and to create consistency, the building department will implement increases in residential and commercial fees for new construction, electrical, plumbing, and other permits and certificates, among others.

Fees for alcohol licenses, one-day alcohol licenses, entertainment, and secondhand licenses will slightly rise. Transfer station increases include fees to dispose of contractor bags, TVs and computer monitors.
