FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON LICENSES ISSUED BY SELECTBOARD

How do I obtain a liquor license?  If there are licenses available (to determine click here), applications are obtained at the Selectboard office or on line at click here.  See Matrix of Liquor License Transactions at click here to determine submission requirements for particular types of requests.  Note: under the Matrix if a newspaper notice is required there is also an $85.00 advertising fee payable to the Town of South Hadley.  All liquor licenses are renewed yearly in December.

How can I obtain a one-day beer and wine license?  Submit letter to the Selectboard or via email at selectboard@southhadley.org stating the date, time (from start to finish), location of the event along with the name the license should be under (the liable party).  The Selectboard must approve the license and, therefore, such requests must be made no later than the Thursday prior to the meeting.  Once the license is granted the applicant may pick up the license at the Town Clerk’s office. See fee schedule click here.  Payment shall be made payable to the Town of South Hadley. Please note that one organization is allowed no more than 30 one-day beer and wine licenses per calendar year.

Do I need a permit to sell new or used vehicles?  Yes.  It is a two-part process.  First you must obtain a Special Permit from the Planning Board at click here. Once the Special Permit is approved by the Planning Board, you must apply for a Used Car License from the Selectboard.  For application click here.  The license is renewed yearly in December and the fee is $100.00 annually.  Please note:  Dealers must provide a dealers bond in the amount of $25,000 to the Selectboard office prior to the issuance of the license.

How do I obtain a hawkers/peddlers license?  The application can be found on line at click here or at the Selectboard’s office.  The application must be signed by the Board of Health Director, the Chief of Police and the then brought to the Selectboard’s office for signature by the Town Administrator.  The fee for the license is $50.00.  Licenses are granted for one fiscal term from July 1 through June 30.
